Mom Prom Keweenaw

I’ve been back living in the Keweenaw since November 2019. It has been nice reconnecting with local friends and finding out what they’re up to and focusing on.

My friend and client, Liz Ross, reached out to me about building this year’s promotional artwork for Mom Prom Keweenaw – “All That Jazz.” Mom Prom is an organization that encourages groups across the country to throw stellar parties with the purpose of raising money to offset the costs of adoption for local families. I think that is just great, so of course, I said yes.

Mom Prom Keweenaw organizers pitched the theme of the roaring twenties, so I went to town with that idea right away. I’ve been playing with some new tools and textures in Adobe Illustrator that gives things an old-printed look. Some of this design features “misregistrations” to nod to the printer-technology of the time and half-tones (those little dots) for shading. To me, it’s the perfect look for a 1920s themed party, amiright?!

Let me tell you a little more…

This photo reference above was just perfect for this design. Doesn’t she look so full of fun and energy? I redrew this Flapper Girl using simple lines and half-tone fills for shadows and looked for some cool 1920s-style fonts to accompany her. It turned out pretty cool! I really want the yellow to all be gold-foil, ’cause I’m all fancy like that, buttttt… digital printing is how this one will be printed.

Versions of the artwork were also created for a Facebook Event Cover Image and square graphic for the Mom Prom ticket website thumbnail.

If there’s an event you’re organizing and you’re in need of artwork and all the social media images and file types for promoting, including T shirt designs or Snapchat filters, please let me know, I’d love to work with you!
